Cover Story
In November last year, my cousins and I started a Kitty that would be hosted every month by one of us. January was the third installment, and my cousin Esha hosted the event at Thyme & Whisk. This place had been on my list for quite some time, but I never gave it the prominence or importance that would push me to go and dine there. Somehow, I kept my distance from Thyme & Whisk, and during all that time, I was missing one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Hyderabad.
FYI! They also have restaurants in Vadodara, Mumbai, and Bangalore.
The Restaurant:
Thyme & Whisk has a light and breezy ambiance and is quite on the semi-formal side. Some portions of the restaurant look decked up, and some look plain. The color themes are soothing, yet I personally felt a little underwhelmed, especially for the type of restaurant and the upscale locale of Jubilee Hills. I can say that this restaurant would look more appealing in the daytime rather than at night. Yes, food is what matters the most; however, the first impression is always the ambiance of the restaurant, and I feel the restaurant can do a better job with it.
The Menu:
Thyme & Whisk serves a plethora of dishes across cuisines like Indian, Mexican, Continental, Italian, Chinese, etc. The menu is massive, but it mostly caters to fan favorites from each cuisine. The menu ranges from nachos, garlic bread, quesadilla, varieties of pizza and pasta to noodles, Manchurian, Thai green curry, to sizzlers, sandwiches, burgers, rolls, and wraps to the much-loved dal makhani and butter naan. I guess everyone would get the gist of what this menu is all about. I really liked the menu concept of doing favorites from each type of cuisine. It immensely helps with the selection process, and one is able to taste different cuisines with ease.
The Order:
Disclaimer: My cousins and I ordered food like mad (coz we are mad...) and I would rather not want my readers to be judgmental towards us. Even if you do, we wouldn't care anyway, but next time, make sure to order even more....

OMG This review is going to be a loooooooooong one.
The Food Review:
Signature Cheesy Garlic Bread - The first item we started with. I was expecting a regular item that you get in most restaurants, but I have to give it to the restaurant; they did justice to the fan favorite. It was soft and crunchy at the same time and really flavorful.
Peri Peri Platter - This was simply muah!!! The platter consisted of peri peri paneer, potato wedges, and mozzarella sticks, which one may consider just too simple, yet the seasoning they put on top made it amazing. Accompanied by two dips, this really helped us whet our appetite.
Shanghai Paneer Chilli - A different take on the famous chilli paneer. Normally, in other places, the paneer is fried and then tossed in sauces and spices. Not here, though. Paneer cubes were tossed in aromatic spices and sauce clubbed with fresh veggies; it was simply melt-in-mouth. This is a must-order starter for everyone for sure.
Tropical Leaf Chat - A different take on the palak patta chaat. The dish had good flavors and a good bite to it.
Korean Garlic Bun - The name and the description on the menu were enough to make me drool for it, and when the bun came in, it did not disappoint. It was hot, soft, and oozing with cream cheese and had very distinct flavors. We initially ordered just one, but eventually ended up ordering three of them. Another must-try item.
Chiang Mai Mushroom - Among the group of eight, two of us wanted to try some mushroom (myself and my cousin Riya). We asked the waiting staff for a good option, and they suggested this. I can say that it tasted quite good but didn't really blow our minds. The flavor profile was a bit similar to the Shanghai Paneer as well, which we had just before this one, so that could also be a reason for us not being overly impressed.
Minted Tandoori Cheese Fondue - Cheese fondue is one of my most favorite dishes, and I love to order it in places that actually serve them. The version served by Thyme and Whisk was a good one. The cheese fondue was flavored with mint and was really nice. It was paired with sautéed vegetables like potato, broccoli, carrots along with paneer and bread croutons. Overall, this was a really good order among the myriad of starters we ordered and stood out along with the Korean Garlic Bun.
Chowpatty Soup - Another distinct dish served by Thyme and Whisk. It was like having pav bhaji but in the form of a drink. The taste was simply yum. Surprisingly, it was refreshing as well. I am not much of a soup lover, but this Chowpatty soup was really cool.
Grabbies Punch - I tend to order the most different or oddly named items from a menu. This drink caught my eye while doing my due diligence on the menu. And to my luck, this turned out to be yummazing. And compared to all other drinks or shakes other guys ordered, this was the best. So this drink is like a blueberry smoothie with vanilla ice cream. It was not overly sweet but not bland either. It was just perfect.
Virgin Beach - It's quite guessable now how this drink panned out. It wasn't bad but nowhere as good as compared to the Grabbies Punch. And for that reason, not much to write home about either.
Ferrero Rocher Shake - Now, this was a disappointment. We actually had ordered the Lotus Biscoff shake initially, but it turned out to be bland. Yup, a milkshake turned out to be bland. The restaurant staff were good, though, and changed the drink when we complained. The Ferrero Rocher shake was better than the Lotus Biscoff, but you get way better versions at most coffee or milkshake joints. I would say (with whatever drinks we tried) to skip the drinks and concentrate on the food. Best bet to order Thums Up instead.
Dal Makhni Shots with Cheese Naan - Let's start now with the main course. I had heard a lot about this dish on the menu from many people. Presentation-wise, it looked really tempting, but possibly, for the day, and at least for me, it turned out to be a dud. The dal makhni was creamy, but that's it. It lacked flavors and even seasoning to some extent. The cheese naan was very nice, though. Based on past reviews of this dish, I will give this another shot next time around.
Paneer Cheese Ghotala with Laccha Paratha - These guys at Thyme & Whisk sure have some creative brains at work. I mean, the way the paneer was served was really unique. The photo is uploaded above, and I am sure you would relate to what I am trying to say. Coming to the taste, it was different, but I loved it. The gravy was very well balanced, but at the same time, I was able to sense the ghotala on my palate.
Hot Cow Boy - I have a certain affinity towards sizzlers. They always give me the wow appeal, I guess. Well, the "Hot Cow Boy" is a Mexican sizzler, and coupled with a funny name and the lure of sizzlers, we ordered this. Served with Mexican rice, gravy, veggies, and most importantly, French fries along with the star of the dish - a burrito, this dish had all the ingredients of making it successful, and it did not disappoint. I truly enjoyed this. The burrito was just amazing, and the Mexican rice with gravy was just too good. Next time I am here, I would like to straight away start with a Korean Bun and a sizzler.
Final Verdict:
Two hours of continuous eating. OMG!! It was quite an experience. I loved the starters and believe they were the star of the day today. The main course was good in parts, and the drinks, well, only my Grabbies Punch stood out, I'd say. One can say that I may have been slightly disappointed today, but actually, I wasn't. In places like this, having vast menus and serving multicuisine food, I personally believe that it's the starters or the appetizers that are the show stoppers, and with them, I had an amazing time. I can say that I treated my palate to a literal world tour in two hours at Thyme & Whisk.
I am pained, however, to point a bit of criticism towards this Thyme & Whisk. We had close to 15 dishes today, and all dishes somehow were all quite balanced on the palate. One might say I am nitpicking, but I would have loved it if at least some dishes would have exploded out with flavors. The only dish that I felt did that was the Shanghai Paneer Chilli. But I can ignore this as my overall experience was a terrific one, and I would surely be returning to the restaurant soon.
